Porsche customer teams win both GT classes at Road America. The result after 160 minutes of racing was: first place with the 911 RSR in the GTLM category and class win as well as third place with the 911 GT3 R in the GTD class. The race on the 6.515-kilometer Road America in the US state of Wisconsin developed into an efficiency competition: Both the 911 RSR from WeatherTech Racing with Cooper MacNeil (USA) and Australian works driver Matt Campbell and the 911 GT3 R from Pfaff Motorsports rely on a courageous two-stop strategy. It always led to success.
As the starting driver, MacNeil was able to keep up with the two GTLM competitors from Corvette. After a little over half an hour, he made the first refueling stop during a yellow phase and passed the 515 hp 911 RSR on to Campbell. The 26-year-old continued the race with fast lap times, but still kept an eye on the fuel consumption of his Porsche. While the opponents had to stop for an additional pit stop or were overtaken by a drive-through penalty, Campbell took the lead and defended it to the finish. For him it was the fourth IMSA victory and the second each time at Road America and in the current season.
