The world championship title was within reach, but in the end Jake Dennis (GBR) was unlucky in BMW's farewell race in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship: despite his failure at the season finale as part of the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium (GER) he finished his rookie season in Formula E as an outstanding third in the drivers' championship. BMW i Andretti Motorsport finished the season in sixth place in the team standings. With this race, BMW's works involvement in Formula E ends after three years as a works team with a total of seven race wins and seven years as “Official Vehicle Partner”. The BMW Group used the stage at the home game in Berlin to demonstrate its current fully electric series vehicles, whose drives have benefited significantly from the knowledge gained from the tough competitive environment in Formula E.

Jake Dennis started the 15th race of the season from ninth place on the grid, just four points behind in the overall standings. Already at the start two of his title competitors, Mitch Evans (NZL, Jaguar) and Edoardo Mortara (SUI, Venturi) were eliminated after a collision. At the restart, Dennis was actually in a promising starting position in the fight for the world title, but then his rear axle blocked before the first corner, he slipped into the wall and was eliminated in turn. Nyck de Vries (NED, Mercedes) secured the title, Dennis maintained third place in the drivers' championship with 91 points despite his failure - an outstanding success in his rookie season in Formula E.
