For the race on August 8, 2021, Lucas Auer (AUT) secured the best starting position among the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the # 22 of the Mercedes-AMG Team WINWARD in qualifying, which was terminated prematurely. Maximilian Götz started the race from a little further back on the 4.011-kilometer circuit in eighth place. Auer kept his promising position even after the start, before a safety car phase slowed the race. At the restart, the Austrian defended his position against attacks by the competition and then, like Maximilian Götz in the # 4 of the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT, relied on an early tire change. This tactic paid off especially for Götz. While Auer held his second place, Götz made a leap forward in the pit stop, adjusted for the ranking. Taking into account the pit stops still to be completed by the competitors, he found himself in third place. As virtual second and third, Auer and Götz set out to pursue the leader. The duo exerted pressure to the front until the final phase and finally crossed the finish line in second and third place. However, the race management pronounced a penalty of ten seconds against Auer for an offense at the pit stop. Götz took second place in the final standings, while Auer was classified fifth.
