The Yaris Cross is based on the same GA-B platform as the current Toyota Yaris, but has more ground clearance and a raised seating position. The platform gives the vehicle high body rigidity, a low center of gravity and a balanced chassis. In the fourth generation, Toyota's hybrid drive technology offers 15 percent more system performance and is 15 percent more efficient than the previous system.

In addition to the front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive (AWD-i) is also available. This automatically switches between front-wheel and all-wheel drive depending on the driving conditions. A manually selectable mode for terrain and snow improves driving stability under demanding conditions. Its 1.5-liter hybrid drive impresses with top figures in the B-SUV segment for fuel consumption and emissions.
