The Porsche GT Team will start the season opener of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with both 911 RSR from the front row of the grid. Works driver Michael Christensen set the fastest lap in the GTE-Pro class in qualifying for the 1000-mile race at Sebring International Raceway in the US state of Florida. The approximately 378 kW (515 hp) Porsche 911 RSR remained unbeaten in a WEC final practice session for the tenth time in a row. Christensen shares the number 92 nine-eleven with Frenchman Kévin Estre. In the #91 sister car, Gianmaria Bruni set the second fastest time, just 0.15 seconds down. In the new season, the Italian is again in a team with Richard Lietz from Austria.

The first qualifying session of the 2022 WEC season started on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. local time. At the onset of twilight, the air and asphalt temperatures were still midsummer at around 30 degrees Celsius. The Porsche GT Team had adapted the two 911 RSRs to the special conditions of the Sebring International Raceway in three free practice sessions and two days of testing on the previous weekend: The circuit leads over a former military airfield and consists of a good third of concrete slabs. With their strong bumps, they abuse drivers and racing cars alike.
