The new Honda Civic Type R has set a new lap record at the Suzuka circuit. The compact sports car lapped the 5.8-kilometre circuit in two minutes and 23.120 seconds* – making it faster than any vehicle with front-wheel drive before it. The previous record holder, the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, was beaten by 0.873 seconds.
The best time was set in mid-March during the final performance test. The new Civic Type R is the latest Honda model to prove itself at the Suzuka International Racing Course. Known for its high-speed chicanes and challenging corners, the circuit, which has hosted the Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix since 1987, except for a two-year hiatus, has served as a test track for Honda's top-performing models since 1962. The new Honda Civic Type R can be ordered from the end of 2022.
