While inheriting the basic Corolla Sport body frame, 20mm wider front fenders and 30mm wider rear fenders create a wider stance that anticipates a spirited driving experience. Designed to further increase the performance of the 1.6-litre inline three-cylinder turbocharged intercooled engine, the triple exhaust system with silencer emphasizes the unique, powerful and sporty rear end. Improving the vehicle's cooling and aerodynamic performance on all types of roads, including racetracks, dirt roads and snow-covered roads, led to the inclusion of an air intake on the front bumper and front fenders and curved air vents.
The GR Corolla features a boosted version of the GR Yaris' 1.6-litre inline three-cylinder intercooled turbocharged engine, resulting in a maximum power output of 224 kW (304 hp). Optimizing the GR-FOUR 4WD system, also found in the GR Yaris to match the specifications of the GR Corolla, was one of several initiatives undertaken to create a car that could be safely and securely controlled can, even when pushed to its limits. While the GR Corolla inherits the basic body frame of the Toyota Corolla Sport to give it the high-speed stability of a long wheelbase, it uses a 60mm wider front track and 85mm wider rear track to achieve a high level of cornering performance.
