Connor De Phillippi and John Edwards (both USA) shared the cockpit of the #25 MOTUL BMW M4 GT3 during the 107 laps of the traditional circuit in California. For BMW M Team RLL it was the 95th IMSA podium since 2009. In the GTD category, Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley (both USA) also achieved the first podium of the season for Turner Motorsport. They finished third in the #96 BMW M4 GT3.
The #25 MOTUL BMW M4 GT3 started the race from fourth place on the GTD-PRO grid and made up a position after the driver change from Edwards to De Phillippi. In the GTD class, Foley quickly took the lead from third on the grid. The #1 BMW M4 GT3 fielded by Paul Miller Racing also made up ground and a duel developed with Turner Motorsport for the lead in the class. In the final stages of the race, both BMW M4 GT3s had problems keeping pace and finished third and fourth. In combination with the recent victory for Paul Miller Racing in Long Beach (USA), all BMW M Motorsport teams have now made it onto the IMSA podium with the new BMW M4 GT3.
