The endurance world championship FIA WEC is organizing a race on the Monza Grand Prix circuit for the first time this weekend (July 16-18). When the Porsche 911 RSR appears on the traditional Italian racetrack, the focus is particularly on the factors of maximum speed and braking performance. “Driving in Monza is always something very special. I can hardly wait to finally really give full throttle with the 911 RSR, ”emphasizes works driver Gianmaria Bruni, who shares the 911 with starting number 91 with the Austrian Richard Lietz. The anticipation is huge in the entire team. Hardly any other circuit puts the core of motorsport at the center of an event like Monza: moving vehicles to the limit at maximum speed.

A well-balanced vehicle is the key to success in Monza in addition to the sheer top speed. A high speed is required on the long straights, before the chicanes “Variant del Rettifilo” and “Variant della Roggia” braking power has to be maximum and traction as good as possible at the exit of a curve. In the faster corners such as the two Lesmo right arcs as well as the "Variant Ascari" and the famous "Parabolica", on the other hand, downforce is required. "As is so often the case, we are looking for the optimal compromise between downforce, aerodynamic drag, traction and balance," says the successful racing engineer who, among other things, achieved class victory at Le Mans in 2018 with "his" starting number 92. “When it comes to the brakes, we have to make sure that the temperature peaks are not too strong,” continues the Briton. "If the brake discs and pads do not show strong fluctuations in the values, the performance of the system is more constant and therefore more predictable for the driver - this is particularly important before the first chicane, where we can drive the car within a few meters of around 270 km / h to compress to 63 km / h. "
