The heart of this #brabus top-of-the-range sedan is the newly developed BRABUS 850 6.3 V12 twin-turbo, increased-displacement engine. To realize this power unit, the company's hi-tech engine shop applies the tried and proven principle of enlarging the swept volume. Bumping the engine capacity from stock 6.0 to 6.3 liters involves fitting the twelve-cylinder with a precision-balanced, custom billet crankshaft with a stroke of 90 millimeters (3.5 in), precision-balanced connecting rods, and forged pistons with corresponding compression height. The cylinder bore is increased to 83 millimeters (3.3 in).
Extensively revised engine peripherals are equally indispensable for achieving the envisioned high-performance level. The two stock turbochargers are replaced by turbos with larger compressor unit and turbine. In addition, the exhaust side uses metal catalysts that reduce dynamic pressure, special particulate filters, and a #brabus stainless high-performance exhaust system. Its actively controlled butterfly valves enable the driver to operate the supercar either in a decidedly subtle manner in the quiet "Coming Home" mode or enjoy a thrillingly powerful V12 exhaust note in the "Sport" position depending on the selected driving mode.
The BRABUS 850 6.3 V12 twin-turbo, increased-displacement engine, which is lubricated with fully synthetic motor oil from Motul, produces an output of 625 kW / 850 hp (838 bhp) at a low 5,500 rpm. The peak torque of 1,400 Nm (1,033 lb-ft) is equally massive and already on tap at 2,100 rpm. This figure is electronically limited to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) in the vehicle to protect the nine-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drivetrain.
Despite a gross vehicle weight rating of just under 2.9 metric tons, the BRABUS 850 supercar based on the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 delivers performance on the road that is usually only achieved by a few full-blooded super sports cars. The BRABUS 850 6.3 V12 powertrain accelerates the four-seater with 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). However, even more important is the utter effortlessness with which the #brabus luxury liner transforms even the slightest gas pedal travel into tremendous acceleration.
