CUPRA, CUPRA e-Racer and Mikel Azcona made history at
first race of the PURE ETCR on the Vallelunga circuit (Italy), where they won the first event of a multi-brand electric tourism championship. With the maximum points up for grabs, the young Azcona won his first “King of the Weekend” title and is the leader of the championship.
Zengő Motorsport X CUPRA proved to be the team to beat during the Italian leg of the PURE ETCR. Azcona, who this season also competes with CUPRA Leon Competición in the WTCR and TCR Europe, won every single battle in his group (A) until the Super Final, where he collided with five other cars. In the final round, disputed over seven laps with 300 kW of power and an extra power, called “Power Up”, of 500 kW, Azcona finished the challenge ahead of the rest of the drivers in the race. An undertaking made even more difficult by a puncture in a tire in the previous race session, which saw the Spaniard forced to start from sixth position, only to recover in the race with a great performance and good overtaking. On the second CUPRA e-Racer involved in group A, Jordi Gené took second place in the round, thus leading CUPRA in front of the competitors.
Mattias Ekström and Dániel Nagy, the other members of the Zengő Motorsport X CUPRA team, competed in the second group B. At the wheel of their respective fully electric CUPRAs, the two drivers did their utmost to conquer the top positions and take the brand to the top. . After starting from the back row of the grid, Ekström also managed to overtake his rivals with a masterful comeback; the second place in Super Final B allowed Mattias to get on the podium as the third best overall score of the weekend, while Nagy, fourth and last driver to join the team, finished sixth in the final.
