DTM: Schubert Motorsport wins with the BMW M4 GT3 at the Hockenheimring.

09-10-2022 07:40 - MOTORSPORT
In the penultimate race at the Hockenheimring (GER), Schubert Motorsport crowned an extremely strong debut season in the DTM by winning the team title early. On Saturday, Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) finished second after a spectacular race to catch up, while Philipp Eng (AUT) finished sixth. With 211 points, Schubert Motorsport can no longer be pushed off the lead in the team classification. A real showdown is imminent in the driver standings. Van der Linde defended his lead with 149 points, but is only two points ahead of Lucas Auer (AUT, Mercedes), the winner of Saturday's race. Marco Wittmann (GER) also finished third on the podium.

Van der Linde had to start the race from 16th on the grid after his team received a ten-place penalty for breaking a rule. But in a turbulent early phase with some serious accidents in which fortunately no driver was seriously injured, the South African made quick progress. Even after his pit stop, he shone with very good speed, drove the fastest race lap and even improved his position on the podium by finishing second. He was able to narrowly defend his overall lead in the drivers' standings against Sieger Auer. Wittmann also drove a strong race in his Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 and finished third for the second time this season on the podium. Eng's race appeared to be over after a collision, but when the race was red flagged, the Schubert mechanics managed to repair the vehicle in the shortest possible time. So Eng was able to drive again and score important points in sixth place.
