Ferrari Luce ‘tailor made’ sells for $40m, setting world record for new car sold at auction

17-08-2026 20:33 - EVENTS
Against the world-famous Monterey Car Week backdrop, the one-of-a-kind Ferrari Luce 'Tailor Made' set a record at auction for $US 40 million. With all proceeds benefiting The Ferrari Foundation, this outstanding result will further the Prancing Horse's longstanding support for global educational programs by providing access to learning opportunities and supporting scholastic initiatives for future generations.

Auctioned in partnership with RM Sotheby's, spirited bidding for the first production Luce chassis took place during one of the automotive world's most prestigious gatherings. This remarkable result comes one year after Ferrari set the previous record of $US 26 million with a one-of-one 2025 Tailor Made Ferrari Daytona SP3.

Created through the combined expertise of Ferrari Tailor Made and the Ferrari Design Studio, the iridescent, semi-metallic Madreperla "Chassis 0" carries its namesake theme of light in every element. The Luce 'Tailor Made' emphasizes Ferrari's cutting-edge technical development, extensive innovation across design, materials and color, and handcrafted technique.

All funds will be donated to educational opportunities in the U.S.A. and globally. Notable projects include:

· M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari: an educational hub set to open in Maranello, Italy in 2029, aimed at inspiring and training talent from around the world, advancing technology in automotive fields. Collaborations with Save the Children, to help rebuild the Aveson Charter School after the 2025 California wildfires, and current projects to expand math and literacy programs in low-income areas of eastern Texas.

· Working with the Second Round Foundation; a non-profit organization co-founded by NBA Champion and 3x All-Star Jalen Brunson, focused on advancing education in underserved urban areas in New York City.

· Funding afterschool reading and math programs with The Boys and Girls Clubs covering a low-income area of southern Florida
