The Indianapolis 8 Hour (USA) on October 5 (race start: 18:15 CEST) is also the season finale of the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS. And in both racing series, BMW M Motorsport is fighting for titles. The WRT team is competing with two BMW M4 GT3s and six BMW M works drivers to win the driver and manufacturer titles in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. One of the two vehicles bears the design of Premium Technology Partner Shell. In addition, the simulation software provider Ansys is on board for the first time as an official partner. In the GT World Challenge America, ST Racing and Turner Motorsport are still fighting for the title in the Pro-Am classification. Five BMW M4 GT3s will be competing there.
The WRT team is going into the Indianapolis 8 Hour as last year's winner. As in Bathurst (AUS) and Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), Sheldon van der Linde (RSA), Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts (both BEL) will be taking turns driving the #31 BMW M4 GT3 in Shell design. Weerts is in the best position in the Intercontinental GT Challenge drivers' championship as second. He was on the podium in third place at both the 24h Nürburgring (GER) and the 24h Spa-Francorchamps. Augusto Farfus (BRA), Dan Harper (GBR) and Max Hesse (GER) will be driving the number 33 car. The trio, who have worked together in the GT World Challenge Europe, also still have a good chance in the drivers' championship. BMW is in second place among the manufacturers ahead of the season finale.
In the GT World Challenge America, whose season finale is also the 8-hour race, five BMW M4 GT3s entered by customer teams will be racing, two from ST Racing and one each from Turner Motorsport, Random Vandals Racing and Flying Lizard Motorsports. The regular participants are BMW M works drivers Neil Verhagen and Robby Foley (both USA). In the ST Racing and Turner Motorsport vehicles, they will fight against each other for the title in the Pro-Am class together with Samantha Tan (CAN) and Justin Rothberg (USA). Bill Auberlen (USA) will be in the ST Racing Pro vehicle. In Indianapolis, the BMW M works drivers Philipp Eng (AUT), Connor De Phillippi (USA) and Nick Yelloly (GBR) will also be joining the team. Eng will be joining ST Racing, De Phillippi will be joining Random Vandals Racing and Yelloly will be joining Flying Lizard Motorsports.
