The exterior design of the new S-Cross combines typical SUV robustness with a strong presence. The large, black radiator grille flanked by LED headlights, angular wheel arches and silver applications on the front and rear characterize the powerful and modern appearance. Eight exterior colors are available, including the attractive Titan Dark Gray Pearl Metallic, which perfectly emphasizes the muscular SUV character of the new S-Cross.
The tried-and-tested 1.4-liter BOOSTERJET engine provides the driveGasoline engine with 95 kW (129 hp) in connection with the 48V SHVS mild hybrid system. The turbo direct injection delivers high torque even at low engine speeds - the maximum of 235 Nm is reached between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm - and thus enables a confident and efficient driving style. The fuel injection system optimizes fuel quantity and pressure as well as direct injection timing to improve performance and efficiency. The electric and variable intake valve control (VVT), the cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and the high compression ratio of 10.9:1 also increase the economy. Power is transmitted via a six-speed manual transmission, with a six-speed automatic available as an option.
The standard mild hybrid system includes an integrated starter generator (ISG), a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and a DC/DC converter that converts the higher voltage for the 12-volt vehicle electrical system. As a 10 kW electric motor, the ISG supports the petrol engine when starting and accelerating. For example, the "Torque Fill" function provides additional torque at low engine speeds, so that the vehicle reacts immediately to the actuation of the accelerator pedal. The "Torque Boost" function, in turn, provides support until the turbocharger responds at around 2,000 rpm, thus ensuring smoother acceleration.
The new S-Cross is driven by the front wheels as standard, but the proven ALLGRIP SELECT all-wheel drive system (only for Comfort+ and in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission) is available as an alternative. It improves stability and driving safety on snow and ice as well as on wet roads. The driver can select four different settings using a rotary control: In addition to the "Auto" mode designed for fuel efficiency, "Sport", "Snow" and "Lock" with a rigid power distribution in a ratio of 50:50 are available. Depending on the selected mode, the electronically controlled system regulates not only the torque transmitted to the wheels, but also ESP and engine power.
