The venue for the world premiere of the new BMW M5 is the Festival of Speed in Goodwood, Great Britain, in July 2024. It will be produced at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing from July 2024. The global market launch of the new BMW M5 will begin in November 2024. The new BMW M5 Touring will also be launched at the same time. The most important sales regions for the high-performance sedan are North America and Europe. The USA, by far the most important individual market, is followed by Great Britain, Germany, South Korea, China, Japan and Canada.
The BMW M5, a legendary high-performance sedan with a 40-year history, is entering a new era. In the seventh model generation, the luxury model from BMW M GmbH is getting an electrified drive for the first time. A model-specific version of the M HYBRID system gives the new BMW M5 (weighted combined consumption: 1.7 – 1.6 l/100 km and 25.5 – 25.0 kWh/100 km; according to WLTP; weighted combined CO2 emissions: 39 – 37 g/km according to WLTP; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 10.3 – 10.2 l/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 classes: weighted combined B, with discharged battery G) a maximum output of 535 kW/727 hp and a maximum system torque of 1 000 Nm. The combination of a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor as well as the power transmission via 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
The impressive power delivery and emotionally powerful performance experience of the new BMW M5 go hand in hand with a new interpretation of the M design for high-performance automobiles. Widely flared wheel arches and side skirts, the sculpturally shaped front apron and model-specific surface design in the area of the C-pillar including an embossed "M5" logo in the area of the Hofmeister kink give it an athletic appearance that distinguishes it more clearly than ever from the BMW 5 Series Sedan. At the same time, an unusually high proportion of surfaces painted in the body color ensures a puristic appearance with stylish references to the superior dynamics of the new BMW M5.
The exterior design and the ambience in the luxurious interior, which is enhanced with M-specific features, emphasise the multi-layered character of the new BMW M5. It draws its sovereignty from outstanding power reserves that can be called up at any time, which it discreetly conceals during relaxed cruising with purely electric drive, clearly shows off when used as a sporty touring sedan and fully unleashes on the race track.
The M HYBRID system and power transmission and chassis technology specially tailored to its performance characteristics ensure longitudinal and transverse dynamic driving characteristics that are unique in the competitive environment. In conjunction with the equally outstanding elasticity values, a new dimension of the typical M performance is achieved.
M HYBRID drive in the new BMW M5: fascinating performance, impressive electric range.
The M HYBRID drive of the new BMW M5 consists of a 4.4-liter V8 engine with a classic high-revving concept and an electric motor with model-specific performance characteristics integrated into the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. The combustion engine has the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology, an exhaust manifold spanning all cylinder banks and optimized oil separation. It develops a maximum output of 430 kW/585 hp and a maximum torque of 750 Nm. The maximum output of the electric motor is 145 kW/197 hp. Its nominal torque is 280 Nm and is increased by a pre-transmission to an effective value of 450 Nm at the transmission input.
The combination of combustion engine and electric motor follows the principle that is also used to drive the BMW M Hybrid V8 long-distance racing car. The power of the electric motor, which is available immediately from a standstill, and the intelligently controlled interaction of both motors ensure that the M HYBRID system responds without delay to every movement of the accelerator pedal. The linear power delivery typical of BMW M automobiles also reaches a particularly fascinating level. The maximum speed of the eight-cylinder engine is 7,200 rpm . In the new BMW M5, a continuous thrust can be felt right up to the highest load and speed ranges. Its top speed is limited to 250 km/h as standard. This limit can be increased to 305 km/h with the optional M Driver's Package.
The sports exhaust system of the new BMW M5 underlines the performance experience with a multifaceted and extremely emotional drive sound. It features electrically controlled, continuously adjustable flaps and the M-typical double tailpipe pairs, each with 100 millimeter covers in black chrome.
The power development of the electric motor is acoustically staged with the BMW IconicSounds Electric. The M-specific electric drive sound provides authentic feedback on the accelerator pedal movements in purely electric operating mode. With the drive configured accordingly, it also underlines the electric support for the V8 engine with an effective sound.
In purely electric mode, a speed of up to 140 km/h is reached. The high-voltage battery, which is located deep in the underbody and has a usable energy content of 18.6 kWh, enables an electric range of 67 to 69 kilometers according to WLTP, which is unique in the competitive environment. The Combined Charging Unit of the new BMW M5 can charge alternating current with an output of up to 7.4 kW.
The power of both engines is transferred to the road via the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, whose rear-wheel-biased design is particularly pronounced in 4WD Sport mode. 2WD mode is also available. The exclusive transmission of drive torque to the rear wheels while simultaneously deactivating the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) allows experienced drivers a particularly puristic performance experience. The further developed M xDrive, like the electronically controlled Active M differential in the rear axle transmission, is specially tailored to the performance characteristics of the M HYBRID drive.
High-quality chassis technology with M-specific tuning.

High-quality chassis technology with M-specific tuning.
The chassis design of the new BMW M5 includes a double wishbone front axle and a five-link rear axle with independent kinematics and elastokinematics as well as numerous specially coordinated components. The electrically assisted rack and pinion steering with M Servotronic and variable steering ratio is rigidly bolted to the front axle carrier to ensure optimum road feedback and high target accuracy. In conjunction with the large track widths and the high torsional rigidity of the body and chassis connection, this combination leads to typical M handling, which is characterized by agility, precision and a linear build-up of lateral forces during dynamic driving.
The standard equipment also includes an adaptive M chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers and integral active steering, which allows the rear wheels to steer by up to 1.5°. The M-specific tuning, the individually selectable maps and the wheel-specific control of the shock absorbers enable optimal body connection and a maximum spread between racetrack-ready dynamics and everyday driving comfort. The targeted steering of the rear wheels optimizes driving stability at high speeds as well as agility and comfort when maneuvering.
Traction, agility and driving stability benefit from the actuator-based wheel slip limitation and the networking of all control systems in the integrated lateral dynamics management. Just like the standard M compound brake system, the optional M carbon-ceramic brake system is combined with an integrated brake system that enables the display of two characteristic curves for the pedal feel. The standard equipment includes M light alloy wheels in sizes 20 inches on the front axle and 21 inches on the rear axle. They are combined with high-performance tires as standard.
Assistance systems for confident and comfortable driving.
