The M-specific design features of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive are based on the technical requirements of a particularly sporty vehicle in terms of cooling air requirements and aerodynamic balance. A front apron with particularly large air inlets ensures that the drive, transmission and brake system are always optimally tempered, even under heavy loads. Strikingly flared side skirts, a model-specific roof edge spoiler and a rear apron with diffuser insert clearly express the performance character of the new top model. The BMW M kidney of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive bears the M logo. In addition, it has horizontally arranged double rods - a detail that was previously only used in high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. Black M exterior mirror caps with a double bar indicate the prominent status of the top model when viewed from the side. Another distinctive feature are the four exhaust tailpipes integrated into the model-specific rear apron, each with a diameter of 80 millimeters. As with the high-performance automobiles, the twin tailpipes of the exhaust system positioned on the outside on the right and left are also an unmistakable indication of the absolute top engine within the series on the BMW X1 M35i xDrive.
The most powerful version of the four-cylinder petrol engine from the latest modular generation delivers the power that is used in the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive for inspiring performance. The innovations implemented compared to the previous generation of engines include the so-called Miller combustion process, a redesign of the intake ports and combustion chambers as well as innovations in the areas of camshaft control, injection, ignition system and exhaust gas routing. The M-specific features of the 2.0-liter drive include a new, particularly robust crank mechanism, an optimized oil supply for the cooling channel pistons and main bearing shells
and cover, which has been adopted from the latest generation of in-line six-cylinder petrol engines. The further development of its M TwinPower Turbo technology includes an increase in performance for the charging system and charge air cooling as well as dual injection for load point-dependent mixture preparation. It also has the variable VANOS camshaft control with optimized oil supply for the actuator and the fully variable VALVETRONIC valve control. The engine achieves its maximum output in the speed range between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm. The maximum torque of 400 Nm is available between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm.
