Two electric motors for powerful propulsion on the road and in the Light off-road vehicle: Volkswagen presents the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION with double engine and a power of 195 kW (265 hp). An electric motor is placed on each axis; that rear ensures drive thrust in all situations, the front one intervenes to support when necessary. The permanent magnet synchronous motor (PSM) on the rear axle generates 150 kW (204 hp) and, together with the electronics of power, the 1-speed gearbox and the differential, weighs only about 90 kg. The great the strength of the PSM motor, which is mounted parallel to the axis, is its own efficiency: in most driving situations, its performance is well more than 90%.
The front wheels are driven by an asynchronous motor (ASM) particularly compact 80 kW (109 hp). The advantage of this solution is represented by the ability to instantly cope with situations of overload and minimal drag losses during inactivity phases. The coaxially mounted front-wheel drive unit weighs about 60 kg. With traction integral with two motors, there is no mechanical link between the axes via cardan shaft, clutch or differential. For this reason, the system works extremely quickly and efficiently; in addition, in the cockpit of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has no central tunnel. The two electric motors of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION together they develop 195 kW (265 hp). This allows the electric SUV to accelerate from zero to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds, while its top speed is limited electronically at 180 km / h. In the WLTP (combined) cycle, the ID.4 traction model integral consumes 17.0 kWh of energy per 100 kilometers. The all-wheel drive strategy fully variable of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION constantly calculates the torques drive units that the two electric motors must apply to obtain the better in terms of efficiency, dynamics and driving stability. Adopting a style of moderate driving, it is the only PSM on the rear axle that provides traction, by virtue of its advantages in terms of traction and efficiency.
An important factor for efficient driving of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION is represented by recovery. Using the ratio selector è You can choose what should happen when you release the accelerator pedal and yes it then initiates a release phase. By setting option D (Drive), the car advances for inertia in most situations and both electric motors are completely decoupled from the wheels. This mode called "soaring" has priority because it is the most efficient.erceptibly. Coats dynamic behavior also plays an important role: front-wheel drive extra always comes into play when the situation calls for it, for example in fast corners or on slippery surfaces. If the driver prefers recovery of energy, the electric SUV offers several options for this purpose. With the mode of guide B (Brake), during the release phase the traction recovers energy, up to a limit of deceleration of 0.15 g. If desired, the Eco Assistant system manages the soaring and recovery when the car approaches an area that requires a lower speed. For this purpose, among other things, the data of navigation and road signs. Energy recovery is particularly high during electric braking, which occurs mainly through the rear PSM. This satisfies over 90% of all decelerations required in driving daily. Its limit is approximately 0.3 g, which corresponds to over 100 kW of recovery. Only above, the electric brake booster of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION activates also the hydraulic wheel brakes. The transition occurs almost imperceptibly e the energy recovery system remains active almost until it stops.
