Why the 2026 Nissan Sentra looks bigger without growing an inch

The 2026 Nissan Sentra arrives later this year with an all-new design that is mature and upscale without sacrificing sportiness. The Sentra design team faced the enormous task of creating a new generation of a vehicle with more than four decades of history and millions sold.
For the model's ninth generation, Nissan designers say they carefully elevated Sentra's style while maintaining its youthful spirit.
"Sentra has always offered contemporary design and impressive technology. It was critical to preserve that legacy," said Lihao Yu, Nissan design director, who led Sentra's redesign.

All-new Sentra design is bolder, not bigger
While its physical dimensions are nearly identical to before, the new 2026 Nissan Sentra looks much larger than the outgoing generation.
"During the initial sketch phase, we incorporated stretched lines that make Sentra appear wider, bolder and more dynamic," Yu said.
These long lines also make Sentra look closer to the ground, providing a sporty impression. In front, the wide, standard LED headlamps are connected across the V-motion grille with subtle chrome trim.
"The horizontal lines extend from corner to corner on the front end, enhancing Sentra's wide appearance," Yu said.
Throughout the design process, the team was inspired by the Japanese principle of shun: a sense of speed that is agile yet effortless.
"It merges purposeful energy with a mature sophistication," Yu said, pointing to the fastback-like silhouette as an example. "The roofline is highlighted by a sleek, arching satin finisher, which enhances its proportions and gives it a more premium, confident look than ever before."

Moving from the side to the rear of the car, muscular fenders emphasize Sentra's daring demeanor.
"The character lines are sharp yet fluid. They draw the eye downward, highlighting Sentra's stability and presence," Yu said.
In back, standard all-LED taillamps drive home a fresh, tech-forward impression.
Finally, all-new wheel designs revitalize every Sentra grade. They range in size from 16 inches on Sentra S to 18 inches on Sentra SR.
"The 18-inch wheels complement SR's exclusive side sills, rear spoiler and unique rear bumper," Yu said.
The sporty SR grade also includes an exclusive front fascia with a dark-chrome V-motion grille, ambient lighting and sport cloth seats with red accents.
Clear quality, inside and out
Yu and his team had quality top-of-mind when creating the 2026 Nissan Sentra. As with the all-new Nissan Murano, designers worked closely with engineers to make panel gaps as small as possible.
"We minimized the space between the doors, hood and fenders. These small details make Sentra feel clean and seamless," Yu explained.
The dedication to quality continues inside, where designers were challenged to improve upon the interior of the outgoing Sentra, which won Wards Auto's 10 Best Interiors when it debuted for 2020.
"The interior was a strong point in the previous Sentra, so we wanted to elevate that reputation even further," Yu said.
No matter the grade, drivers will find high-quality materials that give a premium impression and can hold up for the long haul.
"We paid attention to not just how the materials look, but how they feel. They have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they last," Yu said.
The Nissan design team deliberately avoided monochrome themes when selecting Sentra's color palette. Accordingly, there are sporty red accents throughout the SR grade, while the premium SL grade receives unique blue touches.

provides a premium flair with unique cream and blue materials throughout.
"Sentra is an exciting car, so we wanted colors to match," Yu said. "The well-crafted piping and stitched details imbue an upscale attitude throughout the cabin."
Sentra is known for offering advanced technology, and the 2026 model continues that tradition. Class-leading 12.3-inch infotainment screens2 are available, and Apple CarPlay® and Intelligent Cruise Control3 are standard.
"The displays are precisely positioned for ease of use, and they blend cleanly into the dash," Yu said.
Below the center screen, designers evolved Sentra's three trademark circular vents into an updated, rectangular shape.
